Solus Group Educates Warehouse Owners on Essential OSHA Approved Maintenance and Safety Procedures

St. Louis, MO September 09, 2014

Solus Group, a warehouse solutions company, recently assembled a list of the most important warehouse safety and maintenance procedures to help remind warehouse owners to keep their workers safe.

Jennifer Taylor, Marketing Manager, says that while the passing of the 1970 Occupational Safety and Health Act has reduced occupational deaths by 62% and workplace injuries by 42%, it's still important to maintain stringent safety requirements in the warehouse work environment.

"Everyday warehouse operations can be dangerous, and providing safe solutions in and around the warehouse can be a struggle -- which is why it is important to be aware of all available options for safety equipment," Taylor says. "At Solus Group, we remain committed to helping warehouses and their employees stay as safe as possible."

According to Taylor, the top five most hazardous pieces of equipment in the average warehouse are docks, forklifts, conveyors, materials storage and manual lifting and battery handling equipment.

Ensuring that all employees who handle this equipment follow OSHA's safety standards, such as wearing protective footwear, eye-wear, aprons and other task-specific gear, isn't just necessary for keeping workers safe -- it helps warehouse owners avoid hefty fines for infractions against OSHA's standards.

"Even for just a minor infraction, an OSHA fine can cost as much as $7,000," says Taylor. "For companies that are considered repeat offenders, the fines can jump as high as $70,000."

To avoid these fines and to keep workplace-related injury and death at bay, Taylor recommends that all of Solus Group's customers regularly review OSHA's safety and maintenance policies.

"Taking precautions against accidents in the warehouse might seem tedious, but they can help prevent major catastrophes from taking place," she says. "We're also always available to help answer any questions about OSHA's requirements for safety procedures at Solus Group."

Solus Group offers solutions and products for warehouse storage, shelving, battery roller stands, industrial safety, dock accessories, drum handling, packaging, industrial and office furniture and janitorial maintenance.
