The Proper Equipment Needed for Forklift Battery Watering
Lead-acid batteries need regular watering to maintain appropriately mixed electrolytes in order to prevent dry cell damage and acid boil overs. Improper watering can reduce a battery’s lifespan by years, creating potential safety hazards, cutting down on productivity, and racking up significant costs.
A forklift battery watering system is a tool, or automated system, that precisely adds the correct amount of water to each battery cell through special fittings. A watering gun, or other integrated system, then delivers water to each cell before an automatic shutoff feature stops the flow of water at an appropriate level.
This consistent and accurate watering can lead to a longer battery life. These forklift battery watering systems improve safety by minimizing exposure to battery acid, reduce maintenance time, and lower the overall costs of the warehouse.
Below is a list of standard battery watering equipment you’ll need to get started:
1. Battery Watering & Filling System Tanks
The BHS Battery Watering & Filling System Tank is a mobile water supply designed specifically for forklift users, particularly in park-and-charge applications. This tank carries up to 330 gallons via pallet jack or lift truck and drastically reduces watering time for facilities that use fast-charging.
2. Powered Battery Watering Carts
The Powered Watering Cart offers a reliable and precise solution for watering lead-acid forklift batteries. Battery performance and longevity can permanently decline when batteries are underwatered or overwatered. This unit comes with a Water Gun that automatically shuts off when the proper electrolyte level has been reached, ensuring that boil-overs and dry plates are easily avoided.
The Powered Watering Cart makes this task easy by giving staff a fully mobile and easily maneuverable water cart. Water is dispensed through an ergonomic dispenser, which allows staff to keep a safe distance from the battery. This unit can also be used as a water supply to a single point watering system. Give your staff ergonomic and economical equipment, and get more life and productivity out of your batteries.
3. Watering Guns
Different from the water guns used at the beach, the forklift battery Watering Gun in compact and lightweight, and makes watering batteries more ergonomic and efficient. Its automatic shutoff feature allows it to fill batteries with precision, ensuring the correct amount of electrolyte to maximize performance and longevity.
Attain optimal electrolyte levels without the ergonomic risks associated with bending over batteries while hand-watering. The Water Gun attaches to any of our Water Carts or Tanks, the Water Deionizing System, or to a standard hose. The Water Gun fills cells at a quick but manageable pace, allowing staff to water batteries more efficiently. These dedicated battery-watering tools make a crucial maintenance task faster, easier, and more precise.
4. Water Deionizing Systems
Tap water is full of impurities that can damage battery performance and decrease run-times. These negative effects may not be discernible at first, but in time, minerals and particles from unpurified water will form a damaging buildup on forklift battery cells. The Water Deionizing System prevents this outcome. The Water Deionizing System purifies water straight from the tap to remove minerals and pollutants that can damage forklift battery cells, with a cartridge containing cationic and anionic resins that removes dissolved impurities electrostatically as water passes through it. A purity light monitors the system’s status, and cartridges are easy to replace. A Water Gun can be connected to the output hose to water batteries directly, or the hose can be used to fill a water cart.
Benefits of Using a Battery Watering System
- Improved Safety: Closed-system designs and ergonomic filling reduce the risk of acid exposure and spills.
- Increased Efficiency: Automated systems speed up the maintenance process, reducing labor and time spent.
- Optimized Performance: Correct electrolyte levels ensure proper dilution for the battery to provide maximum power capacity and accept charges effectively.
- Reduced Costs: Preventing premature battery failure maximizes battery life and reduces expensive replacement costs while quicker maintenance reduces labor costs.
